It is with heavy hearts we post this photo today. We received news that Hugo, seen here talking to Nick with his mother, recently ended his life.
We, and I'm sure most of you, are no strangers to suicide. But the loss of Hugo has been especially difficult for us because, as you can see in this photo, he had a pure, unadulterated joy after seeing our show which also happened to be his first time attending a live show.
Our photographer Derek Brad took a lot of photos on this night in Baltimore, but this one was the most memorable. For the few minutes we got to talk, Hugo showed us what it was like to love music. He showed us what it was like to have a joy that was unconditional. We had no idea the kind of battle he was fighting and words cannot express how honored we are to have been able to give him an experience that made him smile this big. Even if it was only for that one night.
In Hugo's honor, please consider making a contribution to To Write Love on Her Arms http://twloha.com/donate , a "non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope & finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, & suicide." We can't end the battle, but it is up to us to help each other through.
You will be missed, Hugo #tornadoboy #towriteloveonherarms
